Outdoor Storage Shed Plan – 3 Steps When Considering Building a Shed

If you are deciding to build a shed using an Outdoor Storage Shed Plan here are three steps to take before actual construction can take place. These steps will save you time and frustration in the long run.

To begin with, once you find the perfect outdoor storage shed plan, you will have to check out your local building codes and get the approval of any home owners association that you may belong to.

Next Step is to make sure your blueprints come with a complete material list along with a lumber cut chart. This chart is pretty neat as it will show you exactly what size to cut your wood. This will save you trying to “eyeball” or guess on any cut sizes. Before you even drive your first nail you will be ready to go with no set backs. If you were to attempt to build and you did not have a professional set of construction plans, you would be wasting a lot of time on the details and the total construction time of your outdoor storage shed.

Now to consider the location of your new outdoor storage shed and what you will be using it for exactly. Make sure you use a design that compliments your home or other out buildings on your property. A nice constructed shed will increase your property value, but it has to look good. Another thing to think of is does your shed need electricity running to it..for lights and an outlet if need be.

Once you decide to build your own outdoor storage shed, taking some action before you actually get started will save you frustration, time and money and help everything run more smoothly.

If you in the process of looking for an Outdoor Storage Shed Plan and you have the land and ambition, then you are already half way there. I have found a place that offers Shed Plans plus thousands of other plans here http://woodworkingforhome.info. Good Luck!

Outdoor Storage Buildings – How To Solve A Space Problem

Who would be without some good outdoor storage buildings? No one, I’m sure. When it comes to keeping a property or backyard tidy and clutter-free, you need masses of space to store important and valuable possessions. Also expensive machinery and equipment would benefit from being housed under cover, therefore extra space would soon be utilised.

It is said that you can never have enough storage space, unless of course you are one of those rare ultra-tidy people who rarely buys anything or is so organised. Most of us are the exact opposite, and seem to acquire items at the rate of knots, and accumulate stuff – with nowhere to stow it.

In my experience, as soon as further storage areas are made available, they tend to fill up too fast, resulting in no space again! It’s a never-ending cycle. But, first things first, a good set of outdoor storage buildings are required, or even just one!

Once you decide to proceed with the construction of one of these units, determine whether you want to go for a kit form or ready-made build. Both have their advantages, if you enjoy taking on a project yourself, and have enough skills, the kit form could be best for you. On the other hand, the easy option is to buy one direct from a supplier, and have them erect it in your backyard for you.

Whichever way you go, don’t forget to get proper blueprint plans. Some folk neglect or completely overlook this part of the project, but it is similar to trying to build a house without architect’s drawings. I know an outside building is not quite as important as a house, however if you omit the planning stage, you never know what problems you might face.

Another point concerning design plans, is they are cost effective and guaranteed to save you money in the long run. They also help you avoid inevitable measuring errors when it comes to the construction stage.

Ensure your site has good accessibility, and can be connected to the various utilities such as water and electricity without problems. Now that plans are in hand and the type of storage building is selected, you are ready to put up your unit in its desired location.

Preparation of the site to accommodate your building is of utmost importance. It must be level with adequate foundations, which is usually a concrete base with dimensions about ten percent larger than the floor area of the building itself, and to a depth of at least 4 inches (or 6 inches if for tractors and other heavy machinery).

Construction can now happen onto a good base. If you are doing this yourself, why not enlist the support of some family members or friends to help with the lifting of heavy parts prior to assembly? Have fun in the process – and a beer or two – and the job will be done in next to no time.

Now you’ve got the outdoor storage building you desired, and solved a problem of lack of space. All that’s left to do is to put up some shelving and racking inside; perhaps even a workbench. You are ready to furnish it with all your stuff, and then you’ll wonder how on earth you managed without that extra valuable space. You can never have too much storage, so enjoy it!

If you want to build your own storage building the right way and avoid making costly mistakes, why not take a look at how-to-build-a-storage-shed.com where you will find loads of useful information.

Outdoor Storage Sheds – What You Need to Know Before You Purchase

If you are thinking about purchasing an outdoor storage shed then you need to know a few things before running out and buying one from your local do it yourself store. Learning these could save you time and money. Don’t be like many others that buy an outdoor storage shed with no plan on how they are going to set it up. I hope that with the tips found in this article will give you a head start on building your storage shed.

You should plan where you’re going to place your outdoor storage shed first. Find a nice level place, this will help save time later. The less you have to dig to level out your shed the faster you will be able to set up. Also you’re going to want to do some landscaping around your wood, metal, vinyl or Rubbermaid shed. You can plant flowers or even set up a trellis around your shed that will help with the overall look.

Another helpful tip is to try to match your new outdoor shed to the look of your house. We have all seen the shed in the back of our neighbor’s house that just does not fit: don’t be that person. You are not just tossing up a shack in your backyard to hold some tools: you want this to blend into the overall appearance of your property and add to the value of your home. Don’t just buy your shed because it’s the cheapest or on sale.

That brings me to the next part of this article, quality vs. price. Outdoor storage sheds have a wide range of prices. The more expensive storage sheds are sided with vinyl and cedar. These will be on average about one or two hundred dollars more then the lower quality sheds. Choosing the lowest price one now can end up costing you more in the end. Check to see what the life of the storage shed is going to be. A lower quality one that is going to last only half as long may not be the right choice for you.

Last but not least you need to check out your town or cities zoning laws. Some laws will limit the distance your outdoor storage shed can be from your house and other property lines. They can also restrict the size for your shed. You may be required to obtain a builder permit for the work on property. You don’t want to be in the middle of setting up and have someone knocking on your door.

By taking all these facts into account before you purchase your outdoor storage shed it will help you chose the right for your yard and save you time during set up. Having a plan before you get started will ultimately save your money and time, and it might just save you a few I told you so’s.

Considerations for Buying or Building an Outdoor Storage Shed

Do you have a storage problem? The chances are you do. What does the term storage really mean to your family and you? Does it mean a place to just throw into the possessions you don’t need to use right away? Or is it a place of organized safety for your valued possessions that you want to be able to find at a moment of need?

An outdoor storage unit can embody multiple ideas to different individuals and families. In every case it should be a place in which to secure individual and family possessions from potential damage or loss and a center for organizing those possessions to become quickly accessible when needed.

When you have a storage problem you reach a point where having to purchase or build an outdoor storage shed becomes an unavoidable challenge. While many families may decide on the easy option of purchasing a manufactured shed from a local retail store or direct from the manufacturer, others prefer the challenge of building their own storage center from shed plans.

With a multiplicity of style and options to consider a review of these basic steps prior to making a final decision will empower you to make the best decision.

What function will your shed serve?

Will you construct your shed as the primary center for individual or family storage? If your answer to this question is yes, you will need to decide how much storage space is needed in the present as well as for future needs.

If your storage shed space requirement is only for your tools or for yard maintenance equipment a simple 4′ x 8′ or a 10′ x 12′ unit may be the answer to free up more space in your garage or home. You also want your outdoor storage shed to complement the color of your house and landscape. Will you need electricity for power and lighting?

Or would skylights provide sufficient light if daylight access is all you need.

Is the width of the entrance to the outdoor storage shed one of other than normal consideration? If not then a 34″ access entry will suffice. If adding some character and asset value to your property is of primary importance you will want to consider wood and pre-finished siding as the preferred way to go. Generally this will be a larger investment than metal or vinyl.

If you end up choosing to purchase a pre-built, delivered and installed storage shed some things to avoid are dealers that fly into town to set up a temporary sales location and disappear the next day. Deal only with those distributors or manufacturers who are in a permanent location and have an honorable relationship with the public.

Your other alternative is going online for both research and the possibility of direct purchase from the manufacturer at a discount price. As with offline distributors or manufacturers you want all warranty of manufacturing and delivery of any pre-cut or pre-fabricated unit to be in writing.

It is always a sound practice to contact the BBB online to discover if there are any unresolved complaints against the company with which you are planning to do business.

By considering the available options and answering these questions you can turn a potential nightmare into a great and smooth experience in adding an outdoor storage shed to your home environment.

Outdoor Storage Shed Plans – Can You Really Build a Shed Without a Builder?

Don’t you just hate it when your garage is cluttered up with all your power tools, garden tools, etc? You can’t store the tools outside, otherwise they will get ruined. One thing I despise is a messy room, but when it comes to a messy garage then that’s when I am not in one of my best moods. I decided it was time for a change, and started looking into outdoor storage shed plans.

I thought that this project may be a difficult one. I am quite the handy man, and am good with my hands. However, I have never taken on a project of this magnitude. I decided to take a drive to my Outdoors DIY store to get more information, and found out that it would not be that difficult a project to do. With the help of a friend or family member, I could have this construction done within a couple of weekends.

After speaking to a friend, he said I should have a look on the internet for outdoor storage shed plans. With the help of my loving wife we managed to find some shed plans. I found some free shed plans, which weren’t that great, and settled on some plans that I would have to pay for. These blueprints were of great value and gave me all the resources, plus other designs, unlike the free blueprints. The plans included how to build gardens shed, wooden sheds, barn storage sheds, as well as as shelving.

Now you know that I can’t stand a messy garage, but one of my other pet hates, is not to have access to everything. This shed had to be built in such a way that I would have easy access to all my tools, without having to move everything out the shed. The plans I got had just exactly that type of blueprint, and I went on to build this structure.

The building took a bit longer than at first anticipated, but once the storage shed was built, it was a welcome sight. I am so happy that I invested in the outdoor storage shed plans. The easy to follow instructions were of tremendous help, and I did not have to acquire the services of a planner or builder to help with the construction. I just needed a helpful friend. My garage is neat once again, and I have easy access to all my tools.

Woodworking Projects – How to Build A Storage Shed Easy

Most people complain about not having enough storage space at one point or another. In addition to the items that need storage  in a house, there are also various tools and equipment that cannot be taken into a house for storage. To avoid subjecting these and other items requiring storage to the elements, building a storage shed makes the most sense. If a storage shed is one of the woodworking projects you are considering, this article discusses how to build a storage shed easy.

You do not need to be highly skilled in woodworking to build a storage shed. All you need is to get your hands on woodworking plans and patterns to guide you on this exciting woodworking project. Shed plans can be obtained anywhere for free or for a small price. Free shed blueprints may be obtained online but you will probably need to have these reviewed by a professional to ensure that they are descriptive enough to allow you to start and finish this project.

Shed plans that are available online for a fee are usually developed by professionals and include everything that you will need for the woodworking projects. They include step by step instructions, materials list, woodworking tools list, type of wood needed and the cuts required for the storage shed, etc.

Shed Building Steps

a. In order to build your outdoor storage shed, you will first need to determine the location for the shed. This will usually be based upon how much room you have to work with on your property. Is it going to be free standing or attached to your house?

b. To ensure that you will have everything you will need for the woodworking project, professionally drawn up plans will be necessary especially if this is your first woodworking project. From these woodworking patterns and plans, you will have a materials list and the cut sizes for the wood and other materials that you can take to any lumberyard to get the items that you need. The shed plans will also help you determine the tools that you need that you can either purchase or borrow if you do not already have them in your possession.

c. A proper foundation for the shed is important and is the difference between a storage shed that will last for many years and one that will easily crumble. Professionally drawn up shed plans will usually include various options for foundations for your wood storage shed that will work such as concrete slab, wood, etc.

d. After the foundation for the wood storage shed is laid, the walls will then need to be build per the specifications of the professionally drawn up shed plans. Unless you are adept at using another method, it will probably be best to construct the walls on the ground and then simply lift them into position.

e. You will then use the professionally drawn up shed plans for building the roof and the trusses. Once this is completed, the end walls will then need to be built.

f. The majority of the work will be completed by this stage. The next step then is to determine the trim for the outdoor storage shed that will complement the wood storage shed as well as your property. You may want to take your time to complete the trim to ensure perfection.

g. One of the final steps after the wood trim is to then attach shingles to the roof. Properly treated wood is important for the shingles. Choose protective coating that is guaranteed to last for a long time in addition to protecting the wood from environmental elements. You can stain, paint or varnish this wood for the shingles for your outdoor storage shed.

The above steps will help you build a storage shed easy in the least amount of time and at minimal cost to you.
