Planning and taking extra time when laying your shed foundation is a very important part of the project. This will ensure your shed to last for years to come.

You can find many different types of shed foundations. I will cover a few in this article.

Small Shed Foundations

  • The first type of foundation is a concrete slab. If you choose this option you will spend more money. Most home owners do not have the confidence to pour their own slab, which makes this option not so popular for the average person, although, you can always hire a professional.foundani1 Shed Foundations
  • When you use the concrete slab method, there are a couple things to remember. When concrete gets exposed to water, it will absorb the water. This means whenever the wood comes in contact with the concrete it needs to be pressure treated.

  • Next are concrete Piers. This option allows you the stability of concrete, and it keeps your shed up off the ground. These piers are poured below grade and attach to steal beams that your shed rest upon.
  • Without a doubt the easiest foundation of all would be dirt. This is usually used for pole type barns.
  • You can simply lay down 6 inches of crushed gravel and place blocks on the gravel, then place your shed on top of the blocks for support. This will keep your shed up off the ground and water drainage should not be an issue.
  • Whatever method you use, making sure you have proper drainage and your shed is level is number one. By doing this all your doors and windows will open and close as they should.
